Alder Barn, Ashwell is a stunning, light and airy barn conversion, which is perfect for families, groups or those looking to stay in a beautiful historic village, whilst being close to lots of amenities and a short hop from both Cambridge and London, using the mainline train services.
We have set up Alder Barn using our knowledge of what we looked for in a good holiday home; a well stocked kitchen, full sized fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, Nespresso coffee machine, WIFI broadband, smart TV with Netflix and much more. For those travelling with small children we also provide a high chair, travel cot, baby bath, a range of children’s cutlery and crockery, toilet steps and a few books, games and DVDs.
Along with a welcome package, to allow you a breather when you arrive, which includes; tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits, plum loaf and some kitchen and bathroom sundries to get you going. The beds are made ready for arrival and towels are also provided.
It’s 42 minutes from the Ashwell & Morden train station to London Kings Cross and we also have good road and motorway links to the South and Midlands. The medieval university city of Cambridge is about half an hour away and there are literally dozens of things to do and see locally from historic houses and animal parks, to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford or the Natural History Museum at Tring.
Ashwell village itself, dating from its first settlement in Roman times, has lovely buildings from Tudor, Carolean and Georgian periods and is well served with three pubs, a village store, pharmacy, artisan bakery, deli butchers, coffee and gift shop, and much more. There is also a local doctors surgery and dentists in the village. The nearest larger town is Baldock about 10 minutes away by car, which has all modern amenities, including a 24-hour supermarket.
We are also able to offer our guests the following partnership service; Dineindulge, who offer a unique private chef experience brought direct to you. They combine a personal chef hire service with restaurant quality cuisine at an affordable price, served for you at the barn. See the welcome email for further details and how to book.
Alder Barn has a front terrace where guests can sit outside, but no garden. Although there is a large park and play area a few within a few minutes’ walk and the village is situated on the edge of rolling countryside and farmland.
The barn is a non-smoking property and unfortunately we are not able to accept pets.
